On the morning of August 5, 2022, a rally was held in Los Angeles at La Placita Olvera. Las mujeres por Karen Bass mobilized the rally to elect Karen Bass as mayor of Los Angeles, other progressive women candidates, and Yes on proposition 1 in order to protect women’s reproductive rights. Dozens of Las mujeres por Karen Bass came from all parts of Los Angeles including the San Fernando Valley, East Los Angeles, South L.A., and San Pedro to gather and unite at La Placita Olvera.

Participants included newly elected State AFL-CIO leader Lorena Gonzalez, civil rights icon Dolores Huerta, Supervisor Hilda Solís, State Senator María Elena Durazo, Assemblymember Wendy Carillo, CHIRLA’s director Angélica Salas, muralist Judy Baca, among many more.

This November election Las Mujeres por Karen Bass understand their vote can be decisive at a time when elections are won by very slim margins. Latinas mobilized in support of Karen Bass and proposition 1 because there is so much at stake with the recent Supreme’s Court Decision on Roe Vs. Wade. This event is about Latinas coming together to mobilize and help Karen Bass to become the first female mayor in Los Angeles and protecting the right for women to choose whether and when to have children.
