Los Angeles Major Antonio Villaragosa and the City Council plan to cut senior food programs from the state budget. Seniors living in Pisgah Villages’ affordable housing want to express to the mayor how useful and necessary food programs are to them. Two teens assist them in making their voices heard. Together they work to achieve their goal.
Aarón López was born in Los Angeles California in 1993. Lopez attends Downtown Magnets High School and will be entering the 12th grade in the fall of 2010. He is in the Electronics program were he is learning about technology. His interest in technology inspired him to take multimedia classes including filmmaking. Seniors Speak Out is his 4th short film.
Kevin Meiía was born in 1994 in El Salvador. At the age of 3 he moved to the United States. He quickly learned English while maintaining his cultural language. Being bilingual has allowed him to engage with many people. He learns things quickly and adapts to his surroundings very well. Mejía is a volunteer tutor in elementary schools and also volunteers his time with various programs offered by W.O.R.K.S. His first short film, “Seniors Speak Out” is in both Spanish and English.
Good Exposure is a community based feature film project. The content you see here has been created by young people between 15 -19 living in northeast Los Angeles as part of an intensive workshop program held at the community center located inside their apartment complex. Many of the youth have grown up together and this is all of their first films.
