The National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) is a nonprofit organization that stands as the premier Latinx and diverse media organization, addressing the most underrepresented and largest ethnic minority in the country. NALIP’s mission is to discover, promote and inspire Latinx content creators and diverse voices across all media platforms. NALIP serves the needs of diverse content creators including, producers, performers, writers, directors, and industry professionals. To help further the careers of Latinx creatives NALIP hosts staple events to allow attendees to network and collaborate.
One of NALIP’s annual events is the Latino Media Market (LMM). LMM is designed to be a great stepping stone to further the careers of its fellows and their projects by meeting industry representatives who can provide some advice on how to foster their project to the next level. If the project meets the specific needs of the company, this can potentially open a window for the project to be commissioned, pre-sold, co-produced, obtain a broadcast license, receive completion funds and/or mentorship.
Another signature event is the NALIP Media Summit. The 4-day event is focused on bringing Latinos in media together and providing them the tools, information, and networking opportunities that will propel them in advancing their careers in the industry. During the 4-day event pass holders can attend workshops, informative sessions, screenings, award ceremonies and so much more. Influential people in the industry come together to gear up and coming creatives in the right direction.
One of my favorite events is the Diverse Women in Media Forum. The Diverse Women in Media Forum is an exclusive one-day event that brings together diverse women to meet, inspire and empower each other. The purpose of the Forum is to help women advance to positions of influence and power within media. Attendees will learn from dynamic industry women leaders, hear thought-provoking sessions and workshops to come away with new tools, ideas and connections to influence the future of women in media.
These events that I mentioned are just a few of the many empowering events NALIP hosts to celebrate Latinx content creators. NALIP will continue to fight for representation on and behind the camera and strive to educate communities around the nation.
