A coalition of multi-cultural student clubs and organizations at CSUN held a demonstration on November 18 in solidarity with the University of Missouri in front of the Oviatt library. The coalition includes the Black Student Union, BSU, Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan, MEcha, Black Male Initiative, BMI, Latino Journalists, CSUNLJ, among many others. Students wore black and met at Sierra Hall, the Matador Bookstore, The Arbor Grill, and the University Student Union before coming together at the Oviatt lawn for a prayer and moment of silence in support of the University of Missouri. They shared their experiences and concerns as minorities on campus in the middle of about 100 students in a circle. The coalition met three times to plan the action and to draft a letter for President Harrison and the school administration addressing retention rates, declining admissions of Black and Hispanic students, and the underrepresentation of colored students in university departments and associations.
