YouTube is changing the face of music. With more than a billion viewers a day, the and over 32 hours of video added every minute, YouTube is a serious force in the midst of the previously dominating record labels. Musicians have begun posting to the site as a primary outlet for their work, where it can be seen and heard without the need for a label. Artists with the right video at the right time have been exploding into the mainstream, or finding a living in the new stream that Youtube represents
Musicians are utilizing Youtube’s ubiquity to nurture support from the ground up, and create circumstances conducive to touring; in the age of the digital download, live performances are where musicians make the most money. With the vastness of material available for view, it may seem unlikely that an artist could get noticed. Record labels make a point to scour Youtube for talent, and independent musicians are now able to make a living within the structure of online video.
